CENTURY-OLD COMPANY

CENTURY-OLD COMPANY

More than a century devoted to carob.
And all the years that remain.

Our ties to carob are the result of 150 years of experience in the trade and industrialisation of this valuable Mediterranean product.

A passion that is reflected in each of the people who form part of this pioneering company. A friendly and hard-working team that puts its soul into everything it does to always obtain an unbeatable product.

The home of carob

In 1974 we created a new warehouse and factory in Cheste (Valencia). A traditional space from where we distribute our products around the world, with everything needed to treat carob the way it deserves. Therefore, we also have a large unloading area to facilitate this work for our suppliers and to ensure the product doesn´t suffer. As well as our special pre-cleaning system which always ensures delivery to the client with the fewest possible impurities.

Our team is a big family and the factory is a home for carob because nowhere is it looked after better. A home that continues to grow, thus, since 2021 we also have new facilities in Pino Blay.

The millennial carob is a tree that is resistant to the toughest droughts, and very easy to grow in its environment. Ready to grow in order to continue to provide good fruit and good shade. And this is also the spirit of our company.

As we have the certificate of the Organic Agriculture Committee of the Valencian Community (CAECV), we also have a BIO section for the sale and manufacturing process.

History of a century-old passion

The great bond between the Jordán family and carob is demonstrated in its 150 years of history. At present, in a more advanced, innovative and demanding market, the fifth generation is responsible for maintaining that pioneering spirit of the company through which it has become one of the major carob producers in Spain.

Timeline

At the end of the 19th century the phylloxera plague affected all the vineyards of Europe and carob emerged as the saviour. However, having overcome the plague, it was necessary to seek a new use for all the carob trees planted during those years.

Joaquín Jordán found the solution: instead of purchasing carob to produce alcohol, he began selling it as horse feed. This idea gave rise to the creation of a company with more than five generations of history.

Joaquín Jordán passed on the business and his passion for carob to his son, Higinio Jordán. The management of the company was left in the best hands.

The Civil War and post-war era brought business to a standstill.

Ricardo Jordán, son of Higinio, began working at the factory of the Tarín family (Chiva), alongside the Montaner family. With the knowledge he had inherited, it was easy for him to take charge of the purchase of carob in nearby towns, control its quality and prevent its theft or people tampering with it.

The Jordán family and the Montaner family joined forces and purchased the factory of the Tarín family.

During this decade, the market grew, warehouses and cutters in the region of Valencia proliferated, and ended up working with up to 1,500,000 kilos of carob.

The company moved its facilities to its new warehouse in Cheste.

Ricardo Jordán and Higinio Montaner passed the baton onto their sons, who interestingly had the same names as them. They worked together for almost 20 years, surviving the period of decline of the crop in Spain which began in 1995.

Ricardo Jordán and Higinio Montaner ended their professional relationship. The Jordán family returned to its origins and formed a new company, the current Productos Jordán SL.

Ricardo Jordán began working with his daughter, Inmaculada Jordán, who now runs the company. Over the years, Inma has become a renowned figure in the world of carob, as she is the current president of the Carob Guild of the Consulate of the Exchange of Valencia and she has chaired the Mondial Carob Group for two terms.

Opening of the new facilities, with everything needed to carry out the company´s passion in the best way and with great convenience for its clients.
